June is Immigrant Heritage Month -- Share your story

“You’re told from a very young age, “We made these sacrifices for you. Our hardships, our burdens, our pain are a form of investment in your future and the decisions you make.” There’s an extreme heaviness there and also the sense of sacrifice so great that you feel a certain obligation to resist your own desires, to some extent, to a pretty meaningful extent, for the sake of those around you.”

America’s diversity — fueled in great part by immigrants — makes us stronger and more connected as a nation. Today, June 1, is the start of Immigrant Heritage Month.

In this era when immigrants are being vilified and used as scapegoats, it is even more important to remember our immigrant roots. Unless you're Native American or descended from slaves -- most families have an immigrant story.

Since June of 2014, Immigrant Heritage Month has given people across the United States an opportunity to annually explore their own heritage and celebrate the shared diversity that forms the unique story of America.

The I Stand With Immigrants Initiative is powered by FWD.us. As part of this initiative, the I Am An Immigrant campaign encourages all Americans to celebrate the monumental contributions that immigrants have made — and continue to make — every day. Together, the three campaigns allow immigrants and their allies to share stories demonstrating how immigration benefits our communities, economy, and country.

These initiatives provide new avenues for individuals, companies, organizations, and public leaders —– to take action in support of their immigrant employees, colleagues, constituents, neighbors, and friends — not just during Immigrant Heritage Month, but every day of the year.

During Immigrant Heritage Month, join in and share your stories of the crucial ways that diverse communities enrich our society, and join a growing coalition across the country proclaiming that it’s time to #CelebrateImmigrants. Share your story.
