Jeremy Lin has accepted a buyout from the Atlanta Hawks and will sign with the Toronto Raptors, ESPN reports. According to his agents, Lin signed with the Raptors and could join the team tonight to play against the Washington Wizards.
Lin’s three-year $36 million contract expires this summer. His salary for the 2018-19 season ($13.8 million) makes it impossible for teams to claim him off waivers.
Lin will take to the court for the first time in a Raptors uniform tonight (Feb. 13), shortly after waiting out the 48-hour waiver period.
Lin has bounced around the league throughout his career. In his eight-plus seasons he has played for the Warriors, Knicks, Rockets, Lakers, Hornets, Nets, and Hawks. This season Lin averaged 10.7 points, 3.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds for the Hawks.
According to Forbes, the deal is beneficial for both Lin and the Raptors. Lin brings with him talent and experience. In exchange, Forbes’ sports contributor Howard Megdal says, the Raptors will give him an opportunity to play “important minutes” on a “winning team.”

His most famous stint was with the 2012 NY Knicks when he came off the bench for the injured Carmelo Anthony. For three weeks, Linsanity was the rage when the California-born and raised Chinese American captured the Big Apple's attention with his speed, passes and shooting.
