Representative Tulsi Gabbard will officially launch her campaign for the President of the United States tomorrow.
The Democrat representing Hawaii's District 2, announced her intention to run earlier this month but the official kick-off will be an outdoor rally on the Great Lawn at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
The event is free but RSVPs are recommended by clicking here.
Born in American Samoa 37 years ago, Gabbard's family moved to Hawaii when the future politician was only two.
Her website and recently released video (below) emphasizes her military service and love: love of country, love of family, love of the environment.
Her website introduces Gabbard, thusly: "Tulsi’s life illustrates how much she is inspired by the power of love. In Tulsi’s words, “When you love, you care, and when you care, you act.” Love for others, for her community and her country has inspired her to live a life defined by service."
In declaring her candidacy, she becomes the first Samoan American and the first of the Hindu faith to run for the highest office in the land.
By running for president in 2020, she puts her current position as the District 2 representative at risk because she could not run for both offices at the same time. Already, Democrats are lining up to campaign for her Congressional seat.
Largely unknown outside of her home state of Hawaii, she gained national attention when she ranks from the mainstream Democratic Party which was backing Hillary Clinton by resigning her post as vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee and endorsing Sen. Bernie Sanders candidacy in 2016.
Although that move should align her with the more progressive wing of the Democratic Party who supported Sanders, many of the senator's backers are withholding their full endorsement of Gabbard because they are waiting to see if the 77-old Sanders will run for President.
