20 Asians and AAPI among Time's 'Most Influential People'


Sandra OhDwayne JohnsonChrissy Teigen and BTS are the best known, but in all, 20 Asians and Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders were named to Time magazine's annual list of The 100 Most Influential People in the world,

Though best known as an international model and a Twitter following in the millions,   Teigen was included for her cooking.

"She remembers where she came from, and she’s very proud of that," writes friend and fellow chef Eric Ripert. "Her father is of Norwegian descent, her mother is Thai and she’s American, and she’s bringing her culture to the food world."

BTS, the K-pop group who refuse to compromise their Korean identity, Having added the U.S. to their journey towards world domination with a North American tour this year that is drawing hundreds of thousands of their fans.

Songwriter Halsey writes: "With positive messages of self-confidence, intricacies of philosophy hidden in their sparkly songs, true synergy and brotherhood in every step of their elaborate choreography, and countless charitable and anthropological endeavors, BTS have put their 14 best feet forward as role models to millions of adoring fans and anyone else who finds themselves drawn to BTS’s undeniable allure."

Filipina Maria Ressa, who earlier was among the journalists named as Time's Person of the Year, again made the list as aninfluencer.

Not as well known are the Chinese tech entrepreneurs Ren Zhengfei and Zhang Yiming who lead tech companies that rival Facebook, Google and Microsoft, and scientists He Jiankui and Zhang Kejian and Americans pioneer venture capitalist Aileen Lee and Planned Parenthood president Leana Wen.
