People Acting Stupid: Woman rants at Filipina American mom and mixed-race son

SCREEN CAPTURE / KTLA
The woman spouting hate speech remains unidentified.
A woman upset that a mom and her son stopped in her Los Angeles community of Playa Vista for coffee hurled a racist rant at the pair, reports KTLA.
“What are you. He doesn’t even look human,” the woman said on video. “Get off our street. You don’t belong in Playa Vista.”

The woman kept asking the mom about her son’s “mix.” According to ABS-CBN, Belinda Panelo is a former model and VJ with MTV Southeast Asia.

“We pay $10,000 a month to keep you out.” the woman continued.

Throughout it all, Panelo tried to remain calm.

“Ok, how do I deal with this in front of my child,” she said to KTLA. “Inside, you know you want to react a certain way. But you’re going to have to keep it together.”

Panelo says the woman’s action don’t represent Playa Vista and that several people have come forward to offer their support and condemn the woman.
In an interview with Balitang America, Panelo, whose son was with her at the time of the rant, said that she and her son are doing fine after the incident, adding that as Filipinos, we should not change minds by reacting with the same hate that is spewed at us.

She says that we can do is be active in our communities, participate in civic society, and educate ourselves.

People Acting Stupid: Woman goes bonkers on NYC subway, passengers defend Asian woman

TWITTER
Ann Luschinkskaya (blond woman) after she began attacking fellow passengers.
ASAM NEWS

Some crazy stuff aboard the D line in New York’s subway system this week.

Police arrested the woman identified as Anna Lushchinskaya, 40, who could be seen on video kicking and spitting at fellow passengers and calling one Asian woman a “f---king ch*nk” and a Dominican man by the name of a 911 terrorist. A video of the Tuesday incident (Dec. 11) has gone viral.

Lushchinkskaya continues kicking and hitting the seated Asian woman with her umbrella, eventually breaking it, as other passengers yell for her to stop. Passengers, including an unidentified Asian man, stepped between the two women to keep keep them separated.

When Lushchinkskaya calls the Asian woman a racial slur,  a gasp could be heard from other passengers  and they began to denounce the woman. “Your white privilege ain’t working over here,” one man is heard saying.

Juan Ayala, who filmed the attack and shared it on his Twitter account PlatanoMan, can be heard saying to Lushchinkskaya, “Your white privilege ain’t working over here. F--k out of here with that racist shit.”

That's when Luschinkskaya called Ayala “f--king Mohammed Atta,” a ringleader in the 911 attack.

Ayala answers “What? B*tch, I’m Dominican,” as he began howling in laughter. “You just tried to call me Muslim?”

The woman then pulled Ayala's headset off his phone and later his phone out of his hand. Ayala wrestles her to the floor and puts her in a headlock as other passengers urge him to stop.

“No, we have to get her arrested. We have to detain her. She just spit on me. She just assaulted me,” he said.

Luschinskaya is registered as a lawyer, reports Law.com. She is a law school graduate who was admitted to the New York Bar to practice law in 2004. It’s unclear whether she is still practicing.

Apparently, this was not the first time Lushchinskaya attacked fellow subway passengers.

Police tell The Gothamist , Lushchinskaya, who also uses the last name Lushchinsky, was arrested in June when she was accused of assaulting passengers in a Sunset Park train and also punching another passenger on Monday.

Police say in the June incident that she sprayed a substance into the faces of two people, “causing burning and irritation.”

The victim in Monday’s incident spoke to The Gothamist.

“As I was passing her she stuck her arm out and like, side punched me with her keys in her knuckles,” the passenger said. “I stumbled, caught myself, kept walking and turned around because she was screaming at me to leave her alone. She called me a ‘psycho bitch,’ and I still had my headphones on so I couldn’t completely catch what she said because I was so taken off guard.”

No charges have been filed in Monday’s incident.

Lushichinskaya was arrested at the 36th St. Station. Yahoo reports that Lushchinskaya has been charged with felony assault. Ayala, aka @Platoman, has been hailed a good samaritan by police.

The woman victim, who was identified as Michelle Tan, told WABC she felt lucky the woman didn’t have a weapon like a gun or a knife “because it could have got a lot worse.”

“I’m lucky that people were on the train who were helping me, especially the first Asian guy who stood in front of me right away because he wasn’t recording. He just stood in front of me to help me, because I know other people were recording, but their recording didn’t do anything until later on when it escalated,” she said.

Tan told the reporter that she's afraid that she might encounter Lushchinskaya again because she takes the D train every day to go to work.

People Acting Stupid: Anonymous driver harasses Boston motorist

RYL LEI
Out of nowhere, a woman drove up next to an Asian American woman and held up this sign.

By Louis Chan
ASAM NEWS

AN ASIAN AMERICAN woman near Boston had to look twice, apparently stunned by the ignorance of a passing driver.

Ryl Lei looked over to her right and saw a woman holding up a sign that read “show me your green card.”

It was the perpetual foreigner stereotype personified. I mean why else would you assume someone had a green card? Why else would you even ask for one?

The woman didn’t stop there. She flashed several other signs as well. There were so many Ryl said she wasn’t fast enough to capture all of them in a photo.

One read “homosexuality is a sin.”

Can she spell “make America great again?”

Ryl wrote on Facebook, “I NEVER in my life thought i would encounter someone like this. I’m not naive and clearly know “they” exist.. but I never thought while sitting at a stop light enjoying the fact it’s the end of the week….I’d turn my head and see the ignorance IN MY FACE… LITERALLY WITH PURE INTENT!! I almost lost myself and followed her… but because my son and his friend was in the back seat I had to educate them about what type of society we actually live in despite what I try to protect him from.”

This isn’t the first time this woman has done this.

AsAmNews found a brief news item from 2016 published by Universal Hub.

The article included a photo of what appears to be the very same sign or at least one very similar that reads “show me your green card.”

The woman she flashed the sign to said “Maybe she saw my dark hair and laborer clothing and made an assumption . She was also pulling up next to pick up trucks and such on highway and shaking her sign at them . There was no action I could take on the highway – and frankly, she scared me as you can’t be right in the head to incite such bigotry . So I snapped her photo while sitting in traffic but I couldn’t get her plate!!”

'People Acting Stupid: "You're illegals crossing the border,' yells racist driver

FACEBOOK
Portland driver let's loose with racist drivel.

By Louis Chan
ASAM NEWS

AN ASIAN AMERICAN woman returning to her car in Portland, Oregon after buying donuts says she was verbally accosted by a driver for no apparent reason.
Selina Cairel's video of the encounter originally posted on Wednesday has already generated millions of views. Click here to watch the video.

“Before you say anything you might wanna make sure you’re actual legals,” the woman can be heard saying in the video. “And then call the cops and let them know.”

“About what?” Cairel asks.

“That you’re illegals crossing the border and your parents probably had to work for fuckin’ dirt just to get here,” the woman responds.

SELINA CAIREL
Selina Cairel wrote on Facebook that a stranger began saying the “nastiest most racist thing possible, after wasting my breath trying to knock some sense into her I just let her speak.”

Cairel also pulled out her phone.

“It started when she had said in the most demeaning poor excuse of a supposed “Asian” accent that “She’s Asian, she can’t see that’s why she can’t drive”. I was parked next to her and i did not instigate this at all.”

The video generated plenty of reactions.

“She’s disgusting,” wrote one person about the video. “Now she’s famous for it.”

“Sad part, its her roots who taught her to be like that and her surroundings,” wrote another. “Either you have a loving upbringing in which you respect everyone and all races as one or you are brought in a environment where you see hate from beginning. The seed was been fed in her head for long time as a kid that is why she is that way. Selena lots of respect for you for not jumping out of the car to teach her a lesson and escalating to next level.”

“Guess she has a brain the size of a pea, no Asian country borders the U.S. and why is she driving a Hyundai,” wondered another.

After the video went viral, the woman, was identified by coed.com as a local dancer.  Her mother said they had allegedly received threats.

Several clubs where she had worked said she is not an employee. Stars Cabaret Bridgeport posted on its website:

"We would like to publicly address due to the calls and messages coming through, that we do not have a staff member or entertainer by the name of [redacted] at our establishment."
Club owner Randy Kaiser told KOIN the woman has not worked as a dancer at the club in at least 6 months. Kaiser condemned what she said on the club's Facebook page:
"Anybody who's associated with conduct that's embarrassing to the club and contrary to our beliefs, they would no longer be associated with the club," he said. "In America, people have a right to be ignorant. We have the right to not associate with that. And she can be a racist somewhere else."

An hour after posting the video, Cairel posted a picture of her U.S. Passport with her parting shot: "I promise I’m legal guys. ðŸ˜‰ðŸ˜‰ðŸ˜‰ðŸ¤£ðŸ¤£ðŸ¤£ðŸ¤£ðŸ¤£"""

People Acting Stupid: Lawyer mocks Orange County Asians and Asian Americans

A LAWYER in Southern California says she is receiving death threats for her social media post making fun of Asians.

Christina Ignatius posted racist comments about Asians in Orange County, Calif. and she's surprised at the reaction. Talk about being so privileged that she could not understand that what she wrote might be offensive.

"My friend said that there is something coming out called Crazy Rich Asians. It reminds me of all the Asians who flooded into Orange County and then took over our mall at South Coast Plaza," Ignatius wrote.

Ignatius said she "didn't have any intent of anger and hatred," when she posted the controversial comments so she isn't deserving of the resulting flack.

"If you have no malintent, you didn't do anything wrong," she told the paper. She said the post was "meant as a joke" for her Facebook friends, according to the Register.
Hmm, not even a hint of remorse or an apology.

In the now-deleted post, she continue talking about Asians: “They will drive in their Mercedes in the carpool lane and then cut across 5 lanes to get over to the mall, as if your car right next to them didn’t even matter. That’s why we have the term “‘driving like an Asian.’”

She went on to call Asians "rice rockets," who "flooded" the University of California-Irving, which she also attended.

One of the responses came from Susan Kang Schroeder, the Korean-born chief of staff for Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas. She wrote a Facebook post of her own, denouncing Ignatius' post, according to the Register.

“I am saddened by your racist, insensitive and simply unacceptable post,” she wrote. “It’s hard to imagine that an attorney in Orange County would make such an ignorant post in 2018.”

Orange County is home to the third largest Asian American & Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AA&NHPI) community in the United States comprising 21 percent of its 3-million residents, according to recent reports.

People Acting Stupid: College professor maligns Asian men

TWITTER
MATTHEW DE STARKEY
ASAM NEWS

Matthew De Starkey, an instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is being slammed on Twitter for a photo he posted of himself supposedly imitating Asian men, We are Resonate reports.

In the photo, De Starkey is squinting his eyes, pressing his hands together, and wearing a wooden bowl as a hat. He captioned the photo, “When your crush says she only dates Asians.”

When members of the Asian community began to criticize his tweet, De Starkey responded with a tweet of his middle finger captioning this post, “Short ass finger.” According to a blog post from a blog called ProAsian that discussed the racist tweet, De Starkey’s response was a reference to the “tired stereotype that Asian men are less endowed.”

De Starkey has since deleted the post and changed his Twitter handle. What remains are screenshots of his tweets taken by other Twitter users.

De Starkey reportedly serves as an instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. According to his LinkedIn account, he is both a student and a supplemental instructor at the university.

Many people are calling on the university to address De Starkey’s tweets. One Twitter user has sent a complaint about De Starkey to the university. The University responded by thanking him and informing him that the complaint had been forwarded to the Chief Human Resources Officer.

As of this posting (July 18), the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has not taken any administrative action, but it has taken to Twitter to let those criticizing De Starkey know that the institution has a zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination and bias.

ASAM NEWS

FILIPINOS KNOW Daly City, Calif. worldwide as the Filipino American capital of the United States. It is a majority Asian American city with a population of 33 percent Filipino and 15 percent Chinese.

The incident caught on video there at a Lucky Grocery Store shows that racism knows no boundaries.

A woman is seen on camera trying to get under the skin of those customers ahead of her in the checkout line, as well as the cashier. The woman starts out speaking nonsense.

“Look at, honey, Look at honey. Licky, licky.”

It’s unclear what she’s trying to do, but a little later her intentions becomes clear.

“Come on, come on, come on, look at all the groceries they buy. Steal our food. Steal our money, our jobs.”

“So racist, oh my god,” a customer ahead of her responds.

“Got a family to feed,” said another.

People Acting Stupid:: Texas driver's racist rant vs. student

SCREEN CAPTURE / YOUTUBE
The unidentified man who verbally abused an Asian exchange tudent.
A SOUTH TEXAS exchange student captured a driver's racist rant against him in a now viral video.

"A road raging guy blocks me off in front of Kingsville DMV in Texas then gets out of his car to fight and threat," posted Ali Aghamdi of Kingsville, Texas.

"He asked me a couple of times to get out of my car, and he kept using bad words and calling me bad names, then he said 'Go back to your home country,'" said Aghamdi, a 24-year-old engineering student at Texas A&M University,

Just another guy acting stupid. These racist actions have become more common since Donald Trump declared his candidacy for president in 2016.

Coincidence? It's pretty obvious the ascendancy of Trump correlates with the rise in hate incidents -- people spewing hate and ignorance towards people of color, including Asians.

Alghamdi, 24, said last month he was driving in Kingsville when the car in front of him reportedly ran through a stop sign. As Alghamdi drove on, the driver of the front vehicle — a black Chevrolet — kept hitting his brakes, causing Alghamdi to do so, as well, according to an article in the Huffington Post.

The driver of the Chevrolet finally came to a complete stop, got out of his car and approached Alghamdi and began berating him. That's when Alghamdi began taping the other driver as he continued insulting Alghamdi.

“I was just shocked; honestly, I was scared,” said Alghamdi, a student

“This is America, dumbass,” the driver can be heard saying halfway through the expletive- -laden video below.

“You better learn how to drive in America,” the man says. “This isn’t Pakistan, bitch. This is not Pakistan, Afghanistan or Kuwait, motherf-----r.”

When the man got back in his vehicle, Alghamdi though the incident was over. But it wasn't. The Chevrolet driver followed Alghamdi to his destination. When he saw the other driver, Alghamdi called police but the man left the scene before police arrived minutes later.

When the Kingsville Police officer arrived he asked to see Alghamdi’s identification. When he told them that he recorded the incident on his phone, the police asked him to turn over the video as evidence and to file a report. “I swear, that’s when the whole process changed 180 degrees,” Alghamdi said.

He uploaded the video to Youtube on May 4 and also submitted it to HuffPost’s “Documenting Hate” project, which uses a database to identify incidents of prejudice.

Lt. Bradley Lile told the Huffington Post that the man in the video clip has been identified and will authorities will pursue charges of disorderly conduct.

"We commend our student for displaying great poise and dignity in the face of intolerance," TAMUK University President Steven H. Tallent said.

"While this incident did not occur on our campus, the behavior captured in this video is deeply disappointing and upsetting to all of us. It is not reflective of our community, but unfortunately the respectful environment we have cultivated here does not exist in all corners of society. So, this is a reminder that we still have work to do."

“Yes, it’s road rage, it happens to everyone,” says Alghmdi. “I look different, that’s when the incident went further.”
Alghamdi believes the incident was motivated by hate.

People Acting Stupid: Women mock Asian nail salos workers

A VIDEO of a couple of women making fun of nail salon workers went viral for all the wrong reasons.

Looks Good Babe, a Facebook page with over 350,000 followers, posted a highly insensitive video yesterday featuring two women mimicking nail salon workers, many of whom are Asian/Americans.

The woman imitating the speech of hard-working, low-wage workers trying to earn a living was speaking gibberish, but they thought it was funny. Some social media users didn't agree:

“So… imagine this was a video of two Asian women doing a (stereotypical) imitation of how Black or Latina women talk and act… the same people laughing now would be up in arms. Am I lying?” one commenter wrote.

Another respondent said, "Switch up the roles and there would be a riot 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ I love how racism is okay when it’s convenient for the person at the time.”

“This isn’t funny just saying, it’s disrespectful because those women who do your nails work hard and do the best work. Y’all are childish,” said another.

However, some thought those who were offended were being overly sensitive.

“I’m Asian I still laughed at this, if we can learn to accept to joke around stereotypes we know that are and aren’t true and laugh about it the world would be less butthurt because I trash talk on every race because I know when to joke around with it when I’m getting roasted by my diverse set of friends,” the commenter explained.

One respondent turned the argument around and accused the workers of being rude for speaking their native language:

“While I appreciate some comments that it is not nice to be satirical, you really do not understand the joke unless you have had your nails done and have experienced some, usually all, of the Asian manicurists rudely talking, sneering and giggling in their own language to one another while they are doing your nails as though you are invisible. Some do not even say ‘hello’. Being black has absolutely nothing to do with it. It is an attack on rude behavior by manicurists, nothing to do with their race,” a netizen said.

People Acting Stupid: Driver goes into racist tirade against U.S. veteran

FACEBOOK
This woman thought she was being funny.

ONCE AGAIN, the old "go-back-to-your-country" expletive (Yes, to me that's an expletive) was hurled at an Asian/American.

The target of the was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, putting his life on the line so a woman can tell him, "this isn't your f--king country."

Then she pulled her eyes back -- yes, she did -- and said, “This is my country, this is not a Chinese. Oh my god, Chinese ugly.”

James Ahn, a resident of Fremont, California, said he was driving at the speed limit but an aggressive driver wanted him out of the way because she wanted to pass. When Ahn changed lanes to get out of the way, the driver passed him then cut in front of him, causing Ahn to slam on his brakes, he said.

The comments occurred when the two cars were side by side at a stoplight.

Fremont police said no crime was committed and there was nothing they could do. With non legal recourse, Ahn posted the video, captured by one of his passengers, on Facebook.

“I later realized that this was more like a hate crime than a road rage,” Ahn wrote on Facebook.

To add insult to injury, the driver of the other car spoke with a noteceable Slavic or Russian accent indicating she may be a recent immigrant herself. Why she thinks she is more of an American than Ahn, who immigrated from Korea in 1992 and who joined the U.S. military in 2012, is beyond me.

Man apologizes for racist tirade, seeks forgiveness

Alex Wolpert was caught on video verbally assaulting an Asian American elder.
ASAM NEWS

A SELF-IDENTIFIED Marine who totally lost it when he saw an elderly Laotian American man in a camouflage T-shirt has issued an apology and pledged to seek treatment for post-traumatic stress syndrome, reports Fox 40.

Alex Wolpert of Sacramento, Calif. got into stunned man’s face screaming “I’m a Marine. OK, and this mother f*ckers going to wear that sh*t? no no. F--k you, f--k you.”

Some, however, have questioned whether Wolpert is a veteran, as he claims.

A video of the encounter posted by the man’s daughter, Van Khon, has gone viral. (Click image below to see video)

Khon said her father is in his 70’s and fought in the Vietnam War in behalf of the U.S. He does not speak English.

The elderly man’s wife tried to calm the situation by apologizing and offering to remove the t-shirt, but Wolpert persisted.

“My friends died.” and you’re going to wear this,” the man could be heard on a video posted on Facebook. “No, no , you can’t do that.”

In a statement released by Wolpert to Fox 40, he said:

“To whom it may concern,
On behalf of my recent actions I apologize, I was way out of line and I caused havoc and disrespect to not only myself but my family as well, since this incident my family and I have received multiple death threat’s and are having our public information posted via online.
To the gentlemen I accused and assaulted, Words cannot describe the amount of sincerity I have for this situation, you and your family did not deserve this at all. to simply apologize for my actions will never be enough as it was not excusable by any means at all, you deserve respect and appreciation and both of which i did not show you. I understand your forgiveness is not deserved by me and I have to accept what I have done. I can only hope this did not leave a scarring image on you or your family as it has me. I would like to apologize in person as words written cannot express the sincerity one can portray with verbal communication. again this incident has permanently scarred me and I can only hope it has not you, I do not deserve your forgiveness nor your sympathy as I only have myself to blame for this incident. Seeing my actions and my words have disgusted me. I only hope that you can forgive me and my actions. On your behalf I sincerely apologize and ask your forgiveness."
Thank you for taking the time to read this.“

People Acting Stupid: Man goes off on woman wearing niqab

SCRREN CAPTURE
Kathleen Deady was verbally attacked by an unidentified white man
A MAN ACTING crazy must have gotten even crazier because he didn't have his cup of coffee.
Kathleen Deady, wearing a niqab covering part of her face and head, went into a coffee shop in Riverside, Calif. then became the target of a racist tirade by an unidentified white man.
A video of the incident titled "Coffee shop refuses service to man making Islamophobic comments, was posted Monday (May 14) and has gone viral.
It opens with a man muttering a comment and then repeating it directing it to a Muslim woman wearing a veil and headscarf called a niqab.  “I said, ‘Is this Halloween or something?’” the man repeated.
Deady asks him why he said that and the man replies, “Why wouldn’t I?” and “Because I want to.”
When she asks if he knows she’s a Muslim, he responds: “Yeah I do.”
Deady asks what his problem is with that and he replies:
“I don’t like it, how’s that? I don’t like that because I don’t like your religion and it says to kill me and I don’t want to be killed by you. How’s that?”
Deady then challenges him, asking if he has read the Koran. He says he’s read “enough of it to know.” After the man says he’s “absolutely” Christian, she challenges him about a Bible passage but he says, “I don’t have any kind of a conversation with idiots.”
As he tries to pay for his coffee, Deady says, “You are committing hate speech.”
Offscreen, voices can be heard shouting at the man, "Racist!" and "Get outta here!"
He tries to pay for his coffee order, but the barista refused to serve him. He left crankier than he was before the unpleasant encounter.

After the incident, coffee shop supervisor Tawny Alfaro says she refused to serve him because he was "being disruptive and he was being very racist."
Deady responds, "Thank you."

Senseless acts of hate against AAPI and other minorities have risen during the Trump  admnistration according to the FBI, the Southern Poverty Law Center and other civil rights organizations. "People Acting Stupid" will chronicle these incidents which, unfortunately, occur much too frequently.

THE PAIN of an unidentified man who claimed to be a former marine played out on a Sacramento street recently when he began screaming out of control at an elderly Southeast Asian American couple.
