Trump pardons Indian American conservative provacateur

DINESH D'SOUZA

DONALD TRUMP announced his intention to pardon Dinesh D'Souza, a radical right provocateur who pleaded guilty of violating federal campaign finance laws.

In a statement released by the White House May 31, Trump announced his plan to pardon the Indian/American immigrant:

“Today, President Donald J. Trump issued an Executive Grant of Clemency (Full Pardon) to Dinesh D’Souza, an accomplished author, lecturer, and scholar,” read the statement.

“Mr. D’Souza was, in the President’s opinion, a victim of selective prosecution for violations of campaign finance laws. Mr. D’Souza accepted responsibility for his actions, and also completed community service by teaching English to citizens and immigrants seeking citizenship.”

“In light of these facts, the President has determined that Mr. D’Souza is fully worthy of this pardon,” concluded the statement.

In 2014 after he was indicted earlier on charges that he illegally used straw donors to contribute $20,000 to Republican Senate candidate Wendy Long in New York in 2012.

Former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara led, an Indian/American, the investigation that led to D'souza's conviction.

After the White House announcement, Bharara tweeted May 31: "The President has the right to pardon but the facts are these: D'Souza intentionally broke the law, voluntarily pled guilty, apologized for his conduct & the judge found no unfairness. The career prosecutors and agents did their job. Period."

In a plea deal, D'souza pleaded guilty and apologized. He was sentenced to five years of probation with the first eight months to be served in a community confinement center,  During his probation, he was ordered to  perform community service.

D’Souza, 57, was bprn in Mumbai and raised a Roman Catholic. He is best known as the director of 2016’s anti-Clinton propaganda hit pieces, Hillary’s America and 2016: Obama's America, decried by critics and beloved by Trump supporters.

While serving his probation, D’Souza has kept active on social media trolling Democrats.  Last year, he tweeted that the Charlottesville rally was staged by the left, defended Hitler by claiming he was “not anti-gay” and called Rosa Parks an “overrated Democrat”.

Recently, on Twitter he made fun of the students of the Parkland high school shooting. He’d shared a picture of emotional students witnessing a vote against an assault weapons ban in Florida, calling it the “worst news since their parents told them to get summer jobs”. He later called it “insensitive to students who lost friends in a terrible tragedy.”
