Naomi Osaka will not be competing in the French Open that starts Sept. 27. Fresh from her impressive victory at the U.S. Open, the No. 3 ranked player said she needed time to fully heal from a hamstring injury that nagged her throughout the U.S. Open.

"Unfortunately I won't be able to play the French Open this year," she wrote on social media. "My hamstring is still sore so I won't have enough time to prepare for the clay -- these 2 tournaments came too close to each other for me this time. I wish the organizers and players all the best."

Osaka injured her hamstring while playing the Western & Southern Open, just prior to the U.S. Open, when she played with a wrapped upper thigh. Playing on the clay courts of the French Open, where players tend to slip and slide, could make her injury worse.

While playing in the U.S. Open, Osaka also received attention and praise for her activism and commitment to social justice. With the hope of raising awareness of the judicial inequities and the deaths of unarmed Blacks at the hands of police and vigilantes.

Meanwhile, Osaka, now ranked No. 3 in the world, received some unwanted publicity, While taking celebratory post-match pictures with her boyfriend, rapper YBN Cordae, at the U.S. Open, he kept flipping his middle finger at the camera.

Fans and fellow players were quick to blast the rapper's "bizarre" behavior for tainting Osaka's accomplishments. One supporter said: "Naomi Osaka wins the US Open and her boyfriend makes it all about him. Show some class." Some fans defended the couple for reacting to the racist messages Osaka received for speaking out against racial injustice.
