Awkwafina will star in a new TV series.

ASAM NEWS

As the Huang family from Fresh Off the Boat in its sixth and  last season leaves television, a new Asian American family is moving in.

Comedy Central rolled out the official trailer Monday (Dec. 2) for its new show Awkwafina is Nora from Queens.

As you might have figured out from the title, the show which debuts January 22 stars Awkwafina as Nora, a young resident of Queens trying to find herself.

Raised by her father (played by BD Wong) and Grandma (Lori Tan Chinn) along with her cousin (Bowen Yang), Nora leans heavily on her close-knit family. Their unique relationship is teased in the trailer, which also offers a glimpse at the star-studded guest roster.

As the show’s publicity material says, “Nora might have grown up in New York, but that doesn’t mean she’s a grown-up.”

If the trailer is any indication, Comedy Central has a hit on its hands.

The show is a return to comedy for the former rapper who most recently starred in the critically acclaimed dramatic movie, Farewell. The breakout star from Crazy Rich Asians is clearly on a roll and Awkwafinaa in Nora from Queens promises to keep her career on an upward progression.
