Lured by the American Dream, a Filipina and her son instead lived like slaves in a nightmare.
High school teacher Christian Mothershead, 46, of West Allis was charged Aug. 30 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with two counts of human trafficking and one count of second-degree sexual assault, all felonies.
Court records say Mothershead met the unidentified woman on a dating website in 2017. He then traveled to the Philippines, where he spent three weeks promising to marry her and further her education if she agreed to move to the US.

The victim and her son, both unnamed in the report, arrived in November 2018 and Mothershead took them to his house. Her first night in the US, Mothershead sexually assaulted her, according to the complaint.
For the next few weeks, he threatened to deport the woman and her son unless they cleaned the house, which was filthy and filled with garbage, according to the court record. He wouldn't give them food andd water unless they complied.
Police said Mothershead cooked an elaborate Thanksgiving dinner, but did not let the woman or her son eat any of it because "Thanksgiving is for Americans" and they were not American.“He just wants me to serve them," the woman's son told investigators.
She told officers she felt like a slave and eventually called police in January 2019.
Mothershead was charged last month with two counts of human trafficking and one count of sexual assault. The courts released high school teacher on bail.
"My client is in shock. He vehemently is going to defend himself and fight these charges. He's angry that these charges have been made against him. And, that there is not a shred of evidence in any of it. And he feels that he's been victimized at this point by her," he said.
