Bruno Mars, BTS shine at Billboard Music Awards

The audience went wild for BTS.

BTS put on an epic performance and brought the house down at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards Sunday (May 20) held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

BTS debuted their new song "Fake Love" sending the group's fans into a delirious frenzy after the Korean boy band won the Top Social award, given to best social media use.

Bruno Mars didn't perform this year but he won major awards in the R&B category, including: Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Male Artist, Top R&B Tour, Top R&B Album for 24K Magic, Top R&B Song for "That's What I Like."

Winning in R&B seems to repudiate accusations of cultural appropriation from some sectors. The recognition caps out a busy and banner year for the Hawaii-born artist. Earlier he won awards for his album and songs from the Grammys and Black Music Awards. In addition, he's been on a worldwide tour for the months.

Mars was called upon to present the Icon Award to Janet Jackson.“The name ‘Jackson’ represents artistic genius and iconic performance,” said Mars in his introduction.

“The Jacksons are music royalty and the first family of entertainment…She is an activist… She’s a humanitarian. She’s a powerful woman. And she is the first black woman to receive the Billboard Icon Award.”

Ed Sheeren won Top Male Artist and Taylor Swift took the award for Top Female Artist.
