LAW ENFORCEMENT responded to a call of a verbal and physical altercation involving more than 100-150 people at the Gurdwara Sikh temple In Greenwood Indianapolis, leaving 4 people injured Sunday (April 15).
One witness says the confrontation included the use of pepper spray which was confirmed by Deputy Police Chief, James Ison to WTTV TV, saying “I believe there was one participant who said there was a pepper spray can thrown into a trash can.”

The incident began as tensions rose between opposing factions at the temple. According to the Daily Journal, the altercation erupted between the incoming party and outgoing party in temple leadership.

Leaders of the Central Indiana Sikh community told the Indianapolis Star that the brawl that broke out at a Greenwood temple does not reflect their religious teachings.

"It's only a couple of people, two or three people, who are making the problem for everybody," said Jagbish Singh of the Sikh Society of Indiana.

News outlets like the Daily Mail have claimed 4 people were injured as a result of sword cuts and stabbings. Ison however, has said there has been no evidence to support this and also said the injuries were minor. Additionally, Indystar, says the conflict goes beyond simple disagreements. Police will review surveillance tapes and interview witnesses.
