George Conway writes scathing oped against his wife's boss, Donald Trump

WIKICOMMONS
GEORGE CONWAY

George Conway's latest commentary reinforces his position as the Filipino American who drives Donald Trump crazy.

There was a time when George Conway was content with staying in the background and letting his wife face the cameras and speak to the media. Almost shy, he preferred to work behind the scenes advancing his conservative views and strengthening Republican arguments

Since Donald Trump was elected, Conway, a conservative lawyer, has become one of Trump's biggest irritants, using social media and opeds to point out Trump's errors, flubs and lies.

His latest oped for the Washington Post is a particularly scathing tongue-in-cheek critique of Trump and his administration.

“I believe it’s normal for the president to say ‘Yo Semites’ and ‘Yo Seminites,’ ‘Thigh Land,’ ‘Minne-a-napolis,’ ‘toe-tally-taria-tism,’ ‘Thomas Jeffers’ and ‘Ulyss-eus S. Grant.’ I believe it’s Biden who’s cognitively impaired,” Conway wrote as if he were a Trump supporter.

“I believed the president in January and February when he said covid-19 was ‘totally under control,’ that it was Democrats’ ‘new hoax,’ and that he was ‘not at all’ worried about a pandemic. I believed him in March when he said he ‘felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic,’” Conway continued his satirical attack.

Conway continues, “I believe the ‘books’ and ‘manuals,’ if someone would just read them, say ‘you can test too much’ for COVID-19. I believe we now have 5 million cases because we test so much, and that the president was right to slow testing down, unless he was kidding – in which case he was right not to.”

“I believe it isn’t racist to call the coronavirus ‘kung flu’ or ‘the China Virus.’ It isn’t racially divisive to say Black Lives Matter is a ‘symbol of hate,’ to celebrate Confederate generals as part of our ‘Great American Heritage,’ or to share video of someone shouting ‘white power,’ which, like displaying the Confederate flag, is ‘freedom of speech.’”

And the list goes on (there's so much source material, after all).

Conway is married to one of Trump's primary spokespeople, Kellyanne Conway, who often has to defend Trump's gaffs, outlandish statements, half-truths and lies. George Conway was offered a position in the Trump administration but he turned it down, perhaps foreseeing the flaws in his wife's boss.

It was shortly after Trump's inauguration when the normally quiet Conway began increasing the number of tweets. First it was a tweet a week, but now, he is almost daily social media poster with 1.4 million followers on Twitter.

He is one of the founding members of The Lincoln Project, which started out with a group of Republicans displeased with Trump's warping of GOP values. The conservative super PAC that aims to “defeat President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box” in 2020.

Its not like Conway has become a liberal or, -- gasp -- a Democrat, but with Trump's takeover of the Republican Party has made the Filipino American attorney look like a moderate Republican who wants to return the GOP to the corporation friendly, socially conservative, small-government-advocate values that used to be the hallmark of being a Republican.

On its website, The Lincoln Project states:

"The 2020 general election, by every indication, will be about persuasion, with turnout expected to be at record highs," they added. "Our efforts are aimed at persuading enough disaffected conservatives, Republicans and Republican-leaning independents in swing states and districts to help ensure a victory in the Electoral College, and congressional majorities that don't enable or abet Mr. Trump's violations of the Constitution, even if that means Democratic control of the Senate and an expanded Democratic majority in the House."

The day Joe Biden announced Kamala Harris as his Vice President pick, The Lincoln Project released the following statement in support of former Vice President Joe Biden’s selection of Kamala Harris as his running mate:

“The Lincoln Project fully endorses former Vice President Biden’s selection of Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate,” said Reed Galen, co-founder of The Lincoln Project. “Harris is renowned for her legal expertise and has proven herself to be a steadfast defender of justice and human rights. She has a deserved reputation for opposing the reprehensible actions the current administration has engaged in against both our own citizens and our allies. We believe she will be a powerful asset to the Biden campaign.”
