LAST WEEK, the U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed Robert K. Hur as Maryland’s U.S. Attorney, reports WBOC TV 16. The 45-year-old Asian/American will be succeeding Rod Rosenstein, who left the post to become deputy attorney general.

The Korean/American barrister was nominated by Donald Trump in November and was supported by both Republicans and Democrats. The Baltimore Sun reported that Hur’s confirmation for his new position was delayed by unrelated questions about the Department of Justice’s probe of the 2016 presidential election.

“Marylanders have been anxiously awaiting confirmation of our next U.S. Attorney,” said Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md, adding that he is confident Hur would “focus on protecting Marylanders across our state.”

Hur has served as the Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General since June 2017. He has degrees from both Harvard and Stanford and has clerked for Chief Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist. He also served as an Assistant United States Attorney for Maryland from 2007 to 2014, prosecuting gang violence, drug trafficking and firearm offenses, and white-collar crimes.

“Working together with local, state, and federal partners, I’m confident we can move forward on the pressing issues facing our state,” said Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md..
