IT'S NO SECRET that Filipinos love to sing. Add a guitar or a piano to a gathering and get a sing-along in which everyone joins in. If there's a Karaoke, the party will go into the wee hours of the morning.
Add Darren Criss and Lea Salonga, and you get magic!
One of the benefits of living in New York is if you're lucky, you might stumble into a bar and get a mini-concert from Broadway performers, minus the makeup and costumes. Just another casual party around the piano.
Criss and Salonga are currently starring on The Big White Way in Hedwig, the Angry Inch and Allegiance, respectively. Unfortunately, Hedwig ends its run Sept. 13, but Lea is still there in the George Takei-created musical.
And if you're lucky ... you might see a scene like the videos taped in 2013 at Marie's Crisis piano bar, a favorite after-show hangout for Broadway's performers and where Salonga sings some of the songs that she is famous for.
