TGIF FEATURE: Bruno Mars sets record for topping Billboard chart

Bruno Mars’ “That’s What I Like” returns to No. 1 on the Hot R&B Songs chart (dated July 22) for a 20th week, tying the record for most weeks spent at No. 1 on the nearly five-year-old chart.

The song matches Drake’s “One Dance,” featuring WizKid and Kyla, and The Weeknd’s “Starboy,” featuring Daft Punk, which have both spent 20 weeks atop the Hot R&B Songs chart within the past 18 months.

The Filipino/American entertainer's electric performance of the song to open the BET Awards show brought down the house.

HEY YOU, HOOLIGANS, (AKA fans of Bruno Mars)! Your favorite singer is on two TV shows tonight!

If you can stay awake tonight, be sure to catch Bruno Mars do Carpool Karaoke tonight with James Corden on The Late Late Show. It should be loads of fun.

But if you can't stay up or record Corden and Mars, the best-selling singer will be on the finale of The Voice where Mars is set to perform his new hit single "24K Magic," the title track off his latest album, which was recently certified gold by the RIAA after the track became the best-selling debut single of his career.

The Hawaii-born Mars is the latest celebrity to join Corden in his bit during which he sings along with the celebrity. The first promo for Mars’ segment — which will air during Tuesday’s episode of The Late Late Show — shows the Grammy-winning artist jamming out to his recent single, “24K Magic,” while wearing his signature XXIV cap

As far as I can recall, Mars is the first Filipino/American or Asian/American to participate in the popular and hilarious skit.

Earlier this month, Mars had another big night when he was featured on 60 Minutes and later the same night, he was the opening act in the American Music Awards show.

Was Bruno Mars snubbed by the Grammy Awards?

Filipino/American R&B singer Bruno Mars debuted his newest album in November.

SO WHY wasn't Bruno Mars' new album and hit single 24K Magic not nominated for a Grammy this year? 

Not only Bruno Mars, but some heavyweight performers didn't make the cut. These included The Weeknd's Starboy,  Lady Gaga's Joanne, Miranda Lambert's The Weight of These Wings, Alicia Keys' Here, Michael Buble's Nobody But Me, Kenny Chesney's Cosmic Hallelujah, and Bon Jovi's This House Is Not for Sale.

Before you Hooligans (what Bruno's fans call themselves) begin marching in the streets or creating hashtags; it wasn't a snub or an oversight. The explanation is simple: In order to be considered for the 2017 Grammy Awards, the new music -- including singles and albums -- must have been released between Oct. 1, 2015 and Sept. 30, 2016. 

Mars' album, which took three years to make, was released after this qualifying time frame. The hit single by the Filipino/American performer was released a week after the deadline on Oct. 7; the album followed on Nov. 18. The single and the album will be eligible for the 2018 awards show.

Bruno Mars: "Uptown Funk" goes downtown at Video Music Awards

Last night, (Aug. 30) Filipino/American recording artist Bruno Mars won the 2015 Video Music Award for Best Male Video along with collaborator Mark Ronson for "Uptown Funk."

Mars' fans, the Hooligans were heating up the Twitterverse in 140-character spurts last night when the award was announced during the live broadcast.

"Fellas, if you're watching we did it, we did it," Bruno Mars said in his acceptance speech. "To my fans, the Hooligans, I love you so much."

The duo bested stiff competition from Ed Sheeran ("Thinking Out Loud"), Kendrick Lamar ("Alright"), The Weeknd ("Earned It") and Nick Jonas ("Chains") to take home the coveted Moonman, presented by Britney Spears.
