Michelle Wie weds son of NBA legend Jerry West

In a Beverly Hills ceremony Saturday, LGPA-winning Asian American golfer Michelle Wie married NBA executive Jonnie West in a Beverly Hills ceremony, reports USA Today.
West is currently the director of basketball operations at the Golden State Warriors, and is the son of NBA legend Jerry West.

The 29-year old Wie announced in June that she would be taking a break from competitive golfing as she dealt with injures. 

The couple became Instagram-official in January this year, and were engaged in March.

Famous friends attended the wedding, such as LGPA golfers Danielle Kang and Alison Lee and NBA star Stephen Curry.

“She was so happy, and she looked so radiant,” said David Leadbetter, her long-time coach, said to the Golf Channel. “It’s a great new chapter in her life.

“I’ve known Michelle since she was 13, more than half of her life,” he continued. “So, it was quite emotional, seeing her get married. She’s going to be a great wife and I’m sure at some time a great mom, in the future.”

Michelle Wie rips commentator for remarks about Korean golfers

Golf champion Michelle Wie condemned remarks by golf pro Hank Haney about Korean golfers, calling the comments racist and sexist.

USA Today reported Haney has been suspended from the SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio channel following a request from the PGA Tour.

When reminded about the upcoming US Women’s Open, Haney said “Oh it is? I’m gonna predict a Korean.”

“I couldn’t name you six players on the LPGA tour,” he continued. “Maybe I could. Well … I’d go with ‘Lee,’ if I didn’t have to name a first name. I’d get a bunch of them right,” Haney said, according to the Post and Courier.

Wie responded with anger on Twitter. “Shame on you, Hank Haney,” she said.

“As a Korean American female golfer, these comments that @HankHaney made disappoint and anger me on so many different levels. Racism and sexism are no laughing matter Hank….shame on you. I don’t ever do this, but this must be called out,” tweeted Wie. Her comments didn’t end there.

Both Sirius XM and the PGA Tour joined in the condemnation.

“The PGA TOUR is committed to and proud of the increasingly diverse makeup of our fan base, not to mention the power and accomplishments of the game’s world-class, global players – both on the PGA TOUR and LPGA, whom we are working with more closely than ever before.”

“SiriusXM proudly covers and supports both women’s and men’s golf and the athletes that make them great. At the PGA TOUR’s instruction Mr. Haney has been suspended from the SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio channel. SiriusXM is reviewing his status on SiriusXM going forward.”

Haney followed with his own apology.

Danielle Kang celebrates her victory in her own unique way.

AFTER Danielle Kang, 24, won her first major golf tournament last Sunday she did what any first-time winner would do. She celebrated.

With the help from her best friend and fellow pro golfer Michelle Wie, they - ahem - "borrowed" the championship trophy prematurely and took it out on the town.

After everyone on her team drank beer from the vessel, she ate some pho from the cup. I'm pretty sure that's the first time that has happened with the trophy. Hopefully, the normally staid tourney officials were not too shocked.

The two young women stole the trophy and par-teed! Not exactly your submissive Asian female stereotype, eh?

We can only hope that this is not the last time either Kang or Wie win a championshp.
