| Filipino American artist Olivia Rodrigo is proud of her immigrant heritage heritage. |
Oliva Rodrigo, usually an affable young woman, wasn't smiling when one of her songs was used in a government video promoting Donald Trump's hateful deportation policies.
“Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda,” the Filipino American singer posted in the comments on the Instagram post.
The video that Department of Homeland Security shared on November 4 in a collaborative post with the White House Instagram account shows images of ICE detaining people of color while Rodrigo's hit, "All-American Bitch" played in the background.
“LEAVE NOW and self-deport using the CBP Home app. If you don’t, you will face the consequences,” reads the post.
Rodrigo’s song off her second studio album Guts, which was released in 2023, plays in the background with the following lyrics: “All the time, I’m grateful all the time, I’m sexy and I’m kind, I’m pretty when I cry.”
During her recent "Guts" concert in the Philippines, Rodrigo became emotional thinking of her late grandfather, who had always wanted to see her perform in his home country.
