Remains of missing Filipino American woman found

Alexis Gabe had been missing since January.

Some remains of a Filipino American woman missing since January were found last week.

An Amador County coroner using dental records identified the remains to be that of Alexis Gabe, 24, a resident of Oakley, California. Gabe's body was uncovered by an visitor from Alaska who was using a metal detector near Plymouth, California, part of the state's where gold was discovered in 1849.

The man notified the Amador County Sheriff’s Office of what was found, and members of the Amador County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and did recover the remains. Due to the time of day and diminishing daylight, it was determined it would be best to keep watch over the area and initiate a more thorough investigation this morning. Members of the Oakley Police Department and the Antioch Police Department responded to the Plymouth area early this morning to assist with the investigation.

"The purpose of this press conference is to focus on Alexis and her memory and try to provide some measure of closure for those who have been impacted by her disappearance," Oakley Police Chief Paul Beard said at a press conference the following Monday.

"Due the condition of Alexis' remains we realize there may never be a full recovery of her," the city said.

"I'm fully aware there are questions and frustrations involving other people in this case," said Beard, inferring that the investigation to Gabe's killing is not finished.

The specific location is an area just off of Jackson Road in Plymouth. The area where Gabe’s remains were found has been searched further and no other remains have been located.

"Jackson Road is an area we identified early on as an area where Marshall Curtis Jones travelled to in the hours and days after Alexi was reported missing," said Oakley authorities. Jones, Gabe's ex-boyfriend, was a suspect in the missing person's case.

After months of searching for her, authorities in Washington state moved in June to arrest Jones, as the prime suspect in her disappearance. The former Antioch resident, however, was killed in a gun battle with members of the Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force as they closed in on him in Kent, Wash.

A candlelight vigil will be held for Gabe on Dec. 9 outside Oakley City Hall. Her family plans to hold a celebration of life in January.

"Despite all the pain, anger, frustration, and grief, somehow, we're relieved she has been found," said Gwyn Gabe, Alexis' father, at the family's press conference. "We can bring her home."
