AAPI Vote 2018: Washington Primary features host of AAPI candidates

OUTSIDE of Hawaii and California, the State of Washington might have the most Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) on the ballot for its August 7 Primaryi.

At the top of the ballot, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, the first Indian American woman elected to the House of Representatives, will be running for her second term in the 7th Congressional District. A Democrat, she faces no challenger in the primary but in November will have a Republican Craig Keller, who was unsuccessful the three other times he ran for the same position.

Jayapal has been an outspoken critic of Trump policies in immigration and health care. She was among the first Congressional reps to visit a detention center for parents seperated from their children.
