One Goh was sentenced to life imprisonment. |
FIVE YEARS ago, One Goh went to school and in a shooting spree killed seven people and wounded three others.
On Friday (June 15), Judge Jeffrey Horner sentenced Goh, 48, to seven consecutive life terms — one for each of the seven victims.
In May, Goh pleaded no contest to all 10 counts of mass murder with the agreement that the prosecutors would not seek the death penalty.

Goh told police he went to Oikos University, a small Christian college in Oakland, Calif. with the intent to confront a specific administrator and demand a $6,000 refund. When Goh discovered the administrator wasn’t on campus, he kidnapped university receptionist Kathleen Ping at gunpoint and brought her to the classroom occupied by his former teacher and 12 nursing students taking a test.
There, he fatally shot Ping and fired away at the students with his .45 calibre pistol, which he legally purchased days before the fateful day in 2012.
Ping was killed in the shooting, along with a diverse group of students, who represented the Bay Area's multiethnic population. They included Doris Chibuko, 42; Lydia Sim, 21; Grace Kim, 23; Judith Seymour, 53; Sonam Choedon, 33; and Tshering Bhutia, 38. Three others survived gunshot wounds.
Although fatally wounded, Ping, a Filipino/American, stumbled back to her office to call 911.
Ping’s brother, Kaine Ping, spoke at the sentencing in an emotional testimony, talking about his sister's dreams of becoming a nurse.
“The grief, pain and suffering will never end,” he told the court. “We’re glad you (Horner) have decided to give us the justice we needed.”
He called Goh “a piece of (excrement) during his testimony, and repeated the phrase on his way back to his seat next to his mother, who had tears streaming down her face.
Goh's attorney said his client was extremely remorseful. Goh was considered a good student before he dropped out of the school’s nursing program.
Goh is a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic who believed that the administration and staff at Oikos were conspiring against him.
