DON'T FEEL SORRY for Ken Jeong, who learned earlier this week that his TV sitcom Dr. Ken had been cancelled by ABC after two seasons.
He barely had time to say goodbye to the cast and crew of his show when it was announced that he had been cast in the movie Crazy Rich Asians, a romantic comedy directed by director Jon Chu and based on the novel of the same name by Kevin Dwan.
Although the character he would portray hasn't been revealed, wouldn't it be fitting that he plays the role of lead male character Nick Young's father, who also happens to be a physician. Before he became an actor, Jeong was a real life doctor. Dr. Ken was inspired by Jeong's transition from doctor to comedian.
Filming of the Kevin Kwan novel is already underway in Singapore and Malaysia. Jeong will be joining the all-Asian cast that will also feature Constance Wu, newcomer Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh and a host of other actors from Australia, Singapore and the U.S.
Before he got his own sitcom, Jeong was best known as Mr. Chow in The Hangover franchise and Ben Chang in the NBC hit Community,
