ONE of the highest ranking woman in the corporate world is resigning

Indra Nooyi announced Monday morning she will leave her position as CEO of Pepsico October 3, reports CNN.

Nooyi, who was born in India, is one of a handful of people of color to lead a Fortune 500 company.
She will be replaced by Pepsi’s (PEP) global operations chief Ramon Laguarta.

“Growing up in India, I never imagined I’d have the opportunity to lead such an extraordinary company,” she said in a statement.

Nooyi was also one of the few foreign-born executives of either gender in top U.S. corporate ranks. "Being a woman, an immigrant, and a person of color made it thrice difficult" for her to succeed, she said in an interview quoted in Great Britain's Guardian newspaper.

Pepsi’s growth during her 12-year tenure, grew 79 percent, but lagged behind Coca-cola,112%, according to CNBC. She resisted those who thought it would be best to split the company in two and instead kept the snack and beverage divisions together.
