Telemudo hosts kicked off show for racist slant-eye gesture

ASAM NEWS

Two hosts at Telemundo have been placed on “indefinite suspension” after making a slant-eye gesture directed at the South Korean soccer team, reported The Hollywood Reporter.
The personalities were joining in on the celebration of South Korea’s shocking defeat of defending champion Germany in the World Cup. The victory catapulted Mexico into the round of 16 and fans in Mexico descended on the South Korean embassy to celebrate.

For some unexplained reason, hosts James Tahhan and Janice Bencosme of the morning program Un Nuevo Dia (A New Day) began pulling back the folds of their skin around their eyes and the other television personalities on Telemundo responded with laughter.

According to Yahoo, Tahhan, is the official chef of the Spanish language network. People on social media were quick to condemn the gesture.

The company placed the pair on indefinite suspension.

This is not the first offensive incident at the World Cup. Earlier Mexico was fined for homophobic slurs directed at Germany’s goalkeeper.
