'Crazy Rich Asians' stars appeal to AAPI audience

IN CASE you've been hiding under a rock for the past year, Crazy Rich Asians - the movie, will be hitting the theaters this August.

Three of its cast members produced Thursday (May 17) morning a video tying the romantic comedy to May, which is Asian American Pacific American Heritage Month. You can expect additional teasers throughout the summer until the movies release, beating the drum on the already highly anticipated movie

The movie, based on Kevin Kwan's best-selling novel of the same name, features an all-Asian cast brought to Singapore from all over the world. It's the first Hollywood studio film to feature such a casting coup since the Joy Luck Club 20 years ago.

The film, directed by Jon M. Chu, already got a big boost last month when a preview in Tinsletown was shown to a select audience of social media influencers who awarded  the feature  high marks. Some lauded the movie's breakthrough status, hoping it would do to the Asian/American stereotypes what the blockbuster Black Panther did by demolishing African/American stereotypes.
